You will:

Course Delivery

Spanning four years with an optional industry placement, our BSc Software Engineering program is structured to enhance your comprehensive understanding and proficiency in software specification, design, implementation, and deployment, integrating various software development methodologies. Additionally, you'll explore core and elective specialized modules covering topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), data mining, virtual reality, and beyond.

Learning Experience

Incorporating collaboration with industry and engaging in real-world software projects is a fundamental component of studying computing at LOU. During your second year, you'll have the chance to participate in our three-week-long industry challenge, Hackcamp. Collaborating with fellow second-year computing students, you'll collaborate to create a web-hosted dashboard or application to address a real-life scenario outlined by one of our industry partners. At the culmination of the three weeks, students also have the opportunity to showcase their completed projects at our Hackcamp showcase day.

Engaging with real-world assignments alongside your specialized studies will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to pave the way for an exhilarating career in the tech industry. Additionally, you'll consolidate all your learning by undertaking an individual project in your final year, enabling you to delve into a specific area of software engineering that aligns with your interests.

Industry Placement

For full-time students, there exists the possibility of undertaking an industrial placement year between the second and third years of study. While it will be your responsibility to secure your placement, we will provide you with a placement tutor who will oversee your progress and evaluate your final report.

Upon successfully finishing a placement year, you have the opportunity to augment your degree award with the designation "with professional experience." Industry placements serve as a superb avenue for enriching your CV, acquiring practical work experience, and establishing connections within the industry.

B. Sc. Cyber Security

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ON REQUIREMENT

APPLICANT PROFILE

We seek candidates who demonstrate a robust enthusiasm for computing, possess a strong work ethic, and exhibit attention to detail. Candidates should display an inclination towards comprehending the inner workings of computers, rather than merely being users of them. Given the dynamic opportunities in computer science, we aim to attract applicants who proactively pursue learning beyond the standard coursework requirements.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

For international students originating from non-majority English-speaking nations, a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 with no sub-score falling below 5.5 is required. Additionally, we recognize various other English language certifications. Should you not meet the English language criteria, alternative pathways such as the Pre-Sessional English course available to qualify for admission to this degree program.

COURSE ACCREDITATION

The Federal Ministry of Education, accredits this program. An accredited program significantly contributes to professional membership attainment and demonstrates a broad scope of knowledge. Certain employers may prioritize candidates with accredited programs, and such accreditation is typically acknowledged by other nations participating in international agreements.

STANDARD ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

GSCE

  • English Language and Mathematics at grade C/grade 4 or above
  • You must fulfil our GCSE entry requirements as well as one of the requirements listed below.

International Students

Alternative entry requirements

LOU Alternative Entry Scheme (LOUAES)

We encourage applications from students who may not initially meet the specified entry criteria but can exhibit their capability to successfully undertake the course. Upon receiving your application, we will evaluate it and consider recommending it for the LOUAES (LOU Alternative Entry Scheme) if you meet the eligibility criteria.

The Lumina Open University Alternative Entry Scheme offers two distinct pathways, and applicants will be directed to the one that aligns with their chosen course. Evaluation will occur either through a review of prior learning or via a formal examination. To qualify for consideration under this scheme, applicants must have attained or be actively working towards achieving GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade C/4 or equivalent.
